Keeping the Blues Alive: A Soulful Night Inside Jams 'N' Cocktails Live

This week on Jams 'N' Cocktails Live, host Brad Brock reunited the full JNC Destruction Crew for a blues-infused evening that celebrated music history, local culture, and soulful storytelling. It was a reunion episode with all the heart and humor fans love, wrapped in the spirit of a genre that has shaped generations: The Blues.

From the jump, the energy was high and heartfelt. Brock kicked things off with a toast to National Prosecco Day, introducing the cocktail of the week—the "Blue Note Fizz," a vibrant, moody drink that mirrored the soul of the evening. Crafted with sparkling prosecco, blue curacao, and citrus, the drink served as a flavorful gateway into a deeper conversation about the music that inspires it all.

The highlight of the night came when JNC regular and blues aficionado "Earnest" took the mic for a powerful segment on the history of the blues. With poetic narration, he traced the genre’s roots from the cotton fields of the American South through its rise to global influence. From Delta origins to its impact on rock, punk, and hip-hop, the segment painted a vivid picture of how the blues gave voice to struggle, resilience, and joy—and how it's still shaping culture today.

Listeners also learned about the vital role of community in keeping the blues alive. Brock spotlighted the Treasure Coast Blues Society and their upcoming blues jam at Bottoms Up Public House, encouraging fans to not only attend but to become active participants in preserving this important musical tradition. He also gave props to the Blues Foundation in Memphis, home of the International Blues Challenge, where local talent like Kevin McLoughlin recently represented the Treasure Coast on an international stage.

Of course, it wouldn't be a JNC show without some signature segments. Derek Zugal delivered a double-shot of mixology in his "Captain Cocktail" segment with a take on the classic Blue Lagoon and a mimosa in honor of "National Jordyn Day." Jordyn Taylor returned to host "The Jordy Files" with entertainment headlines ranging from surprise album drops to tributes to Latin jazz legends. And Elly dropped another "Bad Bitch Message" to round out the night with a heartfelt reminder about self-care and listening to your needs.

Music lovers were also treated to live blues performances by Brad Brock, including a couple of original songs and covers from legends like Lil' Walter, Ray Charles, and Muddy Waters. And for fans of fun and games, a special blues-themed round of "Name That Tune" added a layer of friendly chaos that only the JNC crew can deliver.

The episode wrapped with a look ahead to next week's tribute to the late Wesley Willis, a cult music figure known for his eccentric and unfiltered artistic style. As always, the JNC team left viewers with laughter, insight, and a renewed appreciation for the music that connects us all.

Whether you tuned in for the tunes, the trivia, or the cocktails, this episode of Jams 'N' Cocktails Live was a reminder that the blues is more than a genre—it's a living, breathing part of our cultural soul. And as long as there's a stage, a story, and a song, the JNC crew is here to keep it alive.
