Maya Hawke shared a light-hearted family anecdote involving her dad, Ethan Hawke, and pop icon Rihanna during a recent interview centered around their forthcoming film, “Wildcat.” In the conversation that oscillated between professional insights and personal snippets, Maya couldn't resist bringing up the moment that Ethan sat next to Rihanna at the 2015 NBA All-Star Game — a moment that carries both “family shame” and “family pride.”

Back in 2015, the renowned actor Ethan Hawke found himself in a delightful situation sitting next to Rihanna during the NBA All-Star Game, a moment that quickly went viral. Recollecting the incident with a shade of humor in an interview with Variety, Ethan confessed, “I’ve been caught by the paparazzi openly flirting with Rihanna.”

Maya, not missing a beat, teased her dad, suggesting that it was more of an attempt to flirt rather than a successful flirtation, to which Ethan playfully concurred, terming it a "family shame" — though Maya was quick to rephrase it as “family pride.”

The entertaining incident has been a recurring theme in the family, resurfacing even during Father's Day last year. Maya took to her Instagram Story to repost a message that celebrated Ethan's audacious move to swap seats with his son Levon to get closer to the “Umbrella” singer. The post humorously wished Ethan a happy Father’s Day, spotlighting his endeavors to “get at Rihanna.”

The father-daughter duo managed to engage in this light-hearted conversation courtesy of an interim agreement waiver obtained amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which facilitated discussions on their upcoming indie movie “Wildcat.”

As the chatter veered towards their professional commitments, the Hawkes opened up about their new project where Ethan dons the director and producer hat, steering the ship adeptly. The movie narrates the early struggles and determinations of writer Flannery O'Connor in her journey to publish her inaugural novel. Maya breathes life into the character of O'Connor, sharing screen space with the eminent Laura Linney, who portrays O'Connor's mother, Regina.

As the Hawkes indulge in family banter, bringing a viral past moment to the fore, fans eagerly await the touching portrayal of familial bonds in the upcoming movie, “Wildcat,” which showcases not just their off-screen camaraderie but their on-screen synergy as well.
